AirAsia is expected to carry 9 million passengers in 2006.On March 27, 2006, the government of Malaysia announced that AirAsia took over 96 domestic routes to go along side with 19 major domestic routes as part of Malaysia Airlines route rationalization program, which saw most of its domestic flightswere transferred to AirAsia from 1 August 2006.
